DavidDavid Yo Taylor, imma let you finish, but…

Kanylicious

… we just want to say that SoundCloud just pushed the best release of all time. The best release of all time!

Friends of the Cloud, we’re happy to announce the release of Taylor, named after Taylor Swift, who had a fun encounter with *the* Kanye. This was big news for both Taylor and Kanye and it’s major news for SoundCloud as it’s our biggest update ever.

We’ll be posting an ongoing series of blog posts with details about each new feature in the next few days and here’s a quick overview of what’s happening today. Click the links below to discover more on our fresh new product pages.

Two new player widgets: the Artwork and Mini player. Here’s the Artwork player with the Crooked Vultures song New Fang. Sexy, isn’t it – perfect for your album pre-releases.

Easier private sharing with the Secret Link: share a private url via email and IM

Stats-o-rama: completely revamped stats. Be in the know about the who, what, when, which and wheres around your tracks.

Bringing back the original metric of music: total minutes. SoundCloud becomes your tape in the cloud. Erase & rewind, upload & remove as many tracks as you want within your total amount of minutes. Click here to learn about the different minute packs.

Extended privacy options: disable comments, hide stats and make comments private.

Housekeeping: all PRO accounts are now known as Premium accounts. Check out the full lowdown.

Introducing the new Premium account called ‘Lite’, the perfect entry-level account that lets you dive straight into the premium features for only €29.

Cheaper Premium accounts: we just lowered the price of the yearly Solo, Pro and Pro Plus accounts (€79, €250, €500).

Scup and Cloudpost: two new little apps that let you upload straight from your desktop (note: both are beta).

Oh. One more thing: the iPhone app, it’s finally here. Get it in the app store for €0,79 or $0,99.

Cool? We think so too. Pretty much every new feature was developed based on the awesome feedback you have given us in the past months. We hope you like the new stuff we’ve been working on and please don’t hesitate to leave your thoughts in the comments.

  • yesyes! agreed. the best update ever. really been waiting for better stats, and what can i say? they are amazing! really well done.
i also like the new pricing model, it seems a lot more fair and transparent.
love the fact, that you implicitely fight spamming (group limitations, share to 100 people max etc). this is something you can continue letting myspace do the better job :)
i will continue to be a enthused user.
    cheers,
    nicken
  • Thank you so much, Nicken! Really glad you like the new stuff. Really glad.

I can't seem to find how many minutes I already have uploaded? Where is that info?
  • Check the upload page
  • Nice new widget ! i think i might go to a premium for the first time :)
  • Well that is good news, Ben :)
  • My most beloved feature would be to have a way to allow musician that already have a wbesite to sync a RSS feed where they upload all their music already to sync with a soundcloud account, ID3 would be used to fill the necessary info for the soundcloud upload. that would be so perfect since i'm tired of uploading in so many places i can't even take care of all this "work" :)

l.o.v.e. to play around with the stats. also a great new feature: the stats of the sources, which shows me the plays on the embedded player in myspace, facebook, blog etc..
next on my personal wishlist: (as a digger not a producer):
more and better search options, multisearches. e.g. search for a style AND a city AND a name...etc...
    rock on soundcloud!
  • Thanks! Yeah, on the list for the next steps is search
  • This is incredible guys, well done!
  • Thanks so much Loughlin :)
  • Wow, good effort!!! I'm really looking forward to using those 720 minutes (and the gift topup!) =D

The stats are also way better for me in this format, given the way that I deal with mixes as playlists of single tracks. Be great if you could offer Solo users the source stats though - I'd pay a little extra for that but the 20 euro/month step up to the next type of account is a bridge to far.

Also great to see the uploader tools - CloudPost is reminiscent of Uploadr used by Flickr, which is also a great service. As I won't sell my soul to Apple I'll have to go with Scup though.

Haven't checked out the customisation on the new players yet - am looking forward to a blog post about this.

Thanks again for making my SoundCloud subscription worthwhile. Hope you and your developers can catch up on some well-earned sleep now!

    Cheers
    Dan

P.S. Also liking the Twitter login on this comments box - redirected me back here after logging in without losing what I'd typed. :)
  • Thanks so much, Dan! Really appreciated.

WOW.. Major update. Very smart move changin "pro" to "premium". Funny thing - I was lookin "Disable Comments" feature just yesterday and now it right here in the edit song menu! ) THX
  • 1. Most of the things in this update seems very nice, but one i don't is all the things free user loose (Add track to > 1 group, Replaceing original tracks and "Download your originals"). This update isn't very good for free users, but it's still the best music site in the world.

    2. The iPhone app is really cool. Downloaded it yesterday and haven't had any problems with it yet. It would be nice if the app got the ability to write timed comments and the ability to go to the dashboard.

    Keep it up guys!
  • Thanks, Sibilant for your feedback.
  • Thanks a bunch for the feedback!

there seems to be a problem with download links in soundfiles. if i provide a download option and people are on soundcloud - perfect, the download starts automaticall if you click on it (osx, safari). if you embed the same file in a webpage and chose the download link through the small pointer on the right side it will not start the download automatically but just open a new window which is then - if use osx and safari - just streamed in the window and you have no option to download the file as it is directly streamed in the window and not downloaded.
  • Do you have a link I could test
  • buneech
I don't know if this has been mentioned already, but Taylor doesn't work with Chrome anymore (Stats page, Upload page...), the browser crashes.
  • Yes, we are are aware of that, it's a Chrome and not Taylor issue.
  • Good to see he improvement that have been made.
Particularly like the new pricing structure, with the extra budget options. Well done there.
A couple of things that still need attention.
    1. Sorting of tracks or grouping into folders for easier search / access
    2. Real time transcoding when downloading, so that you can upload hi def and allow any compressed format (mp3) to be downloaded by a recipient.
    3. EC VAT compatible. I have not tried, but would hope that when an account holder has a UK VAT number, they will not be charge the VAT inclusive part in the price of the premium accounts.
Well done and thanks for the progress so far though. Brilliant!
  • Thanks guys! Appreciate it.

    1) We're considering this and have already discussed possible implementations
    2) You mean when uploading, right? This too is part of the next steps: improving the entire upload/transcoding process
    3) This is supported with the new release. You'll be able to add your business' billing address and VAT number when subscribing to a Premium account.
  • Suck my teet
You've just started charging people for accounts with download ability, FAIL, EPIC FAIL!!!!!

Let the mass exodus begin.dj-mixes.com, mixcloud.com anyonee?
