David Tea(m) Time with Karolina Juryga

It is Friday again, that means it is time for our weekly employee interview series that we have dubbed “Tea(m) Time”! Today, help us welcome Karolina Juryga to our team in Berlin!

Hi there! Thanks for the interview- can you say “hi” to everyone in your native language?

Where are you from?

I’m originally from Poland. I moved to Berlin 2001 and started my economic studies. Then I fell in love with the city… and here I am! It’s been eleven years! So some people say I am Berlinerin now!

How did you get introduced to SoundCloud?

I started using SoundCloud a few years ago and found it very fresh and friendly! I found the job offer on the SoundCloud site while listening to my favourite tunes. I love the idea of SoundCloud and the interaction of music & creativity. It sounds to me like a perfect combination!

What do you do at SoundCloud?

I joined the finance team. I do the monthly accounting and take care of the financial issues.

What is your favorite sound?

I love the sound of the summer rain… So here you go:

What sound do you hate?

I really hate the sound of my alarm clock in the morning.

If you had 3 phrases to describe yourself, what would they be?

Optimistic, wearing glasses, love my mac!

What’s your favorite word?

It’s a german one: großartig! If you use it everything sounds better!

How is it working at such an International and diverse office?

It’s awesome! I love the cultural diversity. I love the fact that people working here simply love what they are doing! Everyone is so passionate about working here. It’s great feeling to be a part of it!

If you could say that you are passionate about anything, what would it be?

Winter sports! I love snowboarding, skiing and I became keen on waterskiing and wakeboarding recently. I think everyone should try this. It’s an extreme fun! I also love music!

What are your favorite sounds on the cloud & why?

I like many kinds of music and there are way too many, but all my favorite sounds have something in common: they make me feel good! Here are two of my favorites!

Do you have any fun facts or interesting stories you would like to share?

I used to play cello at the age of 9 which was bigger then me.

Thanks so much for the interview Karolina!! Check out more Tea(m) Time interviews and apply for a job at SoundCloud.com/Jobs.

David Tea(m) Time with Moritz Königsbüscher

It is Friday, that means it is time for our weekly employee interview series that we have dubbed “Tea(m) Time”! Today, help us welcome Moritz Königsbüscher to our team in Berlin!

Hi there! Thanks for the interview- can you say “hi” to everyone in your native language

Moin Moin!

Where are you from?

I am from Hamburg, Germany, but I grew up close to the Ruhrpott. So I still consider myself as a “Pottkind”.

What do you do at SoundCloud? What’s your role?

I am the product manager in charge of payments.  I also make sure that our community team has all the tools available to make dealing with payment processes as easy as possible.

We thank you for that Moritz :). Can you tell us what your favorite sound is?

My favorite sound is that of the Queen Mary 2 blowing her fog horns when leaving or entering Hamburg. These horns are loud and sometimes go odd in the middle of the night! Here is a sound I recorded of the horn blasts:

What sound don’t you particularly enjoy?

That sound when you come back from holidays and hear that your water tap is running.

Oh, that is certainly a bad sound! If you had 3 words to describe yourself, what would they be?

Tall, slightly bearded.

Amazing! What’s your favorite word (in any language)?

Dennoch (German). Translation: (nevertheless, however, anyhow)

How is it working at such an International and diverse office?

Big fun! The smart folks here always help setting the right perspective.

If you could say that you are passionate about anything, what would it be?

I am actually passionate about creating things which other people love.

Why do you think someone should apply to SoundCloud?

To make the next big internet thing happen. Seriously!

Why do you like sounds?

I think that music, or sound in a broader way, is a most basic means of communication. It sets and changes moods. What would life be without sounds anyways?

What do you like most about Berlin?

Berlin is such a vivid place. It´s international, it has so many different places to go and check out. For me it´s a city which happens outside most of the time, so many people on the streets. Berlin is all about its people. Quite a colorful mix.

What are your favorite sounds on the cloud & why?

The Sunpilots: The Piper´s Mirror

and Nicolas Jaar.

I heard of Nicolas Jaar through a SoundCloud addict (Hello Anita!), and instantly liked his music. If electronic music, then like this: smart, creative and versatile.

So Moritz, do you have any fun facts that you would like to share?

When I had my 13th birthday, I was flown to school by helicopter together with Rudi Carell, a famous Dutch showmaster.

Very cool! Where can we find you on the internetz?

Jane Tea(m) Time: Jayme Catsouphes

It is Friday, that means it is time for our weekly employee interview series that we have dubbed “Tea(m) Time”! Today, let’s welcome Jayme Catsouphes to our team in San Francisco! Listen to his audio “hello” below and continue down the page for more!

Hi there! Thanks for the interview – can you say “hi” to everyone in your native language

Where are you from?
I grew up in the birthplace of America – Lexington, Massachusetts! That’s where the first shot of the Revolutionary War was fired. These days, Lexington is most notable for its impressive collection of banks and hair salons.

How did you get introduced to SoundCloud?
Around spring 2010, I started seeing that iconic webplayer popping up all over the place, so I created an account and found I really enjoyed using it, both as a blogger and as a musician.

What do you do at SoundCloud?
I’m a Community Support Specialist on the Community Team. So you know where it says, “Need help from a human?” at the bottom of this page – http://help.soundcloud.com/ ? I’m that guy :) And I’d be happy to answer any question or solve any problem you can throw at me!

What is your favorite sound?
Oh man… not a fair question. But how about some bluesy Hammond organ?

What sound do you hate?
One hand clapping… And this:

Gross.

What’s your favorite word?
Fisai:

How is it working at such an international and diverse office?
Swwwweeeeet! I love learning new phrases in new languages, trying new foods, beers. And it’s nice to have a good excuse to pop over to Europe every once in awhile.

If you could say that you are passionate about anything, what would it be?
Sound!! I’m a nerd about it in pretty much every possible way. I love music, I love the physics of sound, I love sound engineering, I love radio, I love drooling over audiophile stereo systems and vintage mics and preamps.

Why do you think someone should apply to SoundCloud?
If you want to be surrounded by positive, creative, passionate people and enjoy feeling like you’re a valued part of a mission-based company (unmute the web!), you’ll love working here. And if you are one of those people who believes sound is more powerful than video, even better!

What do you like most about San Francisco?
The WEATHER!! Seriously, I actually do like the weather in SF. It’s always pants weather, so you can look super fabulous 365. Haha, but yeah fog ain’t so bad compared to a New England winter, and you can easily escape it with a quick road trip, if need be.

But no, my real answer is the energy of the city. It feels exciting without feeling hectic and I love that people are so ready to embrace different ways of thinking and living.

What are your favorite sounds on the ‘cloud ?
Love me some Snap Judgment, and Love + Radio. Great storytelling there.

And I really love this little ditty by Alt J –

Do you have any fun facts you would like to share?
I was in a Fruit Roll-Ups commercial when I was in 5th grade. And I have a titanium plate in my face. Hollah!
