David The SoundCloud Desktop App 163

With today’s launch of the Mac App Store, we’re happy to announce a new addition to the suite of native apps: the SoundCloud Desktop app for Mac. The coolest part: it’s currently a featured app in the Mac App Store in the section “What’s Hot” and also high up the list in the music category. The absolute coolest part: it’s free.

We’re bringing the SoundCloud experience to your desktop that allows you to access all the sounds shared exclusively with you to browse, listen to and favorite sounds. Create custom playlists and saved searches to see the sounds you need in an instant and download others for offline playback. And just like all the official SoundCloud apps it also includes record functionality that lets you easily capture and upload any sound whenever you need to share or store something quickly.

So whether you’re a serious sound professional who needs something to manage your daily workflow or just a casual creator who prefers the smooth native experience of OS X, SoundCloud Desktop does just the job.

Features:
- Record: capture your sounds right in the app and upload to your SoundCloud account in no time.
- Listen to, favorite and manage your exclusive and incoming tracks in one place.
- Browse and search any sound
- Create playlists and saved searches

Note:
Only tracks that have been made available for 3rd party applications will be accessible via SoundCloud Desktop. To change your settings, go to your track settings (pen icon above the waveform) and enable Apps.

Open the Mac App Store on your Mac after the software update that will install a dock icon for accessing the store. Or try this direct link.

As always, let us know what you think in the comments below. And if you like it, give kudos to Robb, brainchild behind the app. Well done!

David SoundCloud Android 22

Yeah, we’ve heard you – you’ve been patiently waiting for this one. It was a challenge for us to keep this a secret for a few months and that makes it even more exciting to be finally announcing the release of the official SoundCloud app for Android.

One quick note before we start: we wanted to release the app in time for the holidays and we’ll continue the development of the app so if you’re comparing the features to the ones available on the iPhone version and missing something, don’t worry, new updates will happen rapidly.

SoundCloud Android:

The official SoundCloud Android app lets you easily access, browse and listen to the sounds shared to you while you’re on the road and away from your computer. The app also includes recording functionality that lets you capture any sound around you and instantly save it in the ‘Cloud.  Stay tuned, plenty more to come too.

Features include:

  • Record: capture and share your sounds on the go, wherever you are
  • Browse, listen to and favorite sounds shared with you exclusively and on your Dashboard
  • Visualize your sounds with the SoundCloud waveform and use it to seek inside a track
  • Find and follow any SoundCloud user within the app
  • Background playback

The next update will include sharing to Facebook & Twitter and also the ability to comment.

To get the app, scan the QR code at the bottom of this post with your Android phone, or open the Android Market Place on your phone, search for “SoundCloud” and download the app for free. Below are some some screenshots of how it looks:

David The SoundCloud iPhone App 25

With the new update of the iPhone app, we’re coming one step closer to the full SoundCloud experience on your mobile. Most importantly, the app is now available for free for all users. If you can’t wait to get it, jump right into the iTunes App Store.

New update: iPhone App by Weatherman

As mentioned in today’s update, the iPhone app now also supports the Record feature and will allow you to capture and share any type of sound while you’re on the move. So no matter if it’s the first chords of an acoustic demo version of a new song, a voice memo, interview or a new joke for your next stand-up session, the SoundCloud  iPhone app will let you record and share your sounds in just a moment.

Here’s a run-down of the new features:

  • Record: capture your sounds on-the-go and share them directly to Facebook, Twitter and MySpace (only iPhone 3Gs and 4 since the app relies on the AAC hardware encoder)
  • Browse and search user profiles
  • Share any public track to Facebook & Twitter
