Ben SoundCloud Voices

SoundCloud Voices is a weekly Community feature focusing on new spoken word creators found on SoundCloud. It might be a podcast, radio show, audio book, interview, audio messages, a poem, anything! Keep an eye out every Thursday for a new post.

Voices this week takes a look at some charity organisations using SoundCloud, ranging from Marie Curie, to BAFTA and the Children’s Radio Foundation.

First up Marie Curie has been using SoundCloud to embed audio into their site.  Using the mini player the cancer care charity have posted recordings of their nurses explaining the support they provide and where donations go in terms of the help they provide.  Take a look on their site for an example and listen below.

Next up is BAFTA, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts who fund the development of all art forms of the moving image.  They have been using SoundCloud as part of their education initiative.  They record and share Q&As with various directors, actors and experts in the industry.  Take a listen to one of their Q&As with Martin Scorsese and Ben Kingsley about new film Hugo below and check out their site to listen to more Q&As with some of the films up for BAFTA nominations!

Finally the Children’s Radio Foundation gives young people the skills and tools to make their voices heard. Using radio and other low-cost communication technologies, they build local capacity to create and sustain community-based youth media initiatives.  Doing great work in various countries in Africa, the charity is also supported by the likes of MIT and UNICEF.  Take a listen below to one of the many great pieces the children make as part of the program.

Dave Donate a Track for Charity

In our last blog post we mentioned a few really cool ways that people were using SoundCloud and we’d like to tell you about another one. This time it’s all in the name of a good cause!

twestivallogojpgWe know that many of you are on Twitter because we see you all busy using SoundCloud’s ‘share via Twitter’ social feature that we launched last year. If you’re one of these people then you should definitely get involved in Twestival.fm (a sister-site to Twestival, the festival taking place in 184 cities worldwide on 12th February).

The organisers are asking artist, bands and labels to donate tracks via their SoundCloud Dropbox. These tracks will then be made available for streaming and download between the 5th and 19th February at the Twestival.fm website using a SoundCloud player. The site is hoping to raise $20,000 by asking visitors to leave a tip in a Radiohead ‘pay what you want’ style. All money raised will go directly to charity: water to help build five new drinking wells in places where many have no access to fresh water.

You can donate your track via the DropBox below or simply share a track you already have in the Cloud with http://soundcloud.com/twestival

Donate your track

We look forward to seeing how the campaign runs!
