Jane Hello Heroes: Audiobiography

audiobiography_img

Who are you and what’s important to you? SoundCloud Heroes are kicking off the year with a community organized project: Audiobiography, an opportunity to introduce your profile and sounds.

Whether you’re a listener or an avid creator, introduce yourself by participating in this collective project. All languages are welcome to participate. It’s easy:

  1. Record or creatively share a sound that describes and answers the question: who are you and what’s important to you? Perhaps it’s a freestyle rap, or a recording that features your latest piano composition as background music. Keep the track to ~90 seconds.
  2. Name the track Audiobiography with your name, as such “Audiobiography: Ben Z.” Add a description.
  3. Tag the track “audiobio” and upload.
  4. If you have the Spotlight feature, pin the sound to the top of your profile. You can also add the sound to your profile’s description under your Advanced Settings.

All languages are welcome to participate. Please see available translations here (more coming):

Audiobiography is going to be massive, and SoundCloud Heroes want everyone in the community to be part of it. They’re aiming to collect as many audiobiographies as possible by March 31, and even more throughout the year. Your audiobiography will be shared in the coming months on SoundCloud, on our official blog, and in a creative showcase, which we’ll be announcing soon.

Connect with people around the world and hear the people behind the sounds.

Jane Hello Heroes: Welcoming new Heroes in 2013

The sounds and stories that happen across continents, languages and genres in the SoundCloud Community continually move us: it’s amazing to see support and camaraderie flowing back and forth in comments, creativity executed in collaborations, and smaller communities forming as part of the whole.

We want to honor that by recognizing leaders in the community who maintain SoundCloud’s positive spirit and showcase the infinite possibilities for connectivity and collaboration. Say hello to the SoundCloud Heroes: community leaders who connect and inspire.

Whether encouraging sound creators to participate in community-organized projects, or welcoming new members as they make their way around the platform, Heroes are here to help you connect and achieve great things.

We first introduced the Heroes program last February and held an in-person Summit with our first group of ten Heroes in our San Francisco office in April. Over the months, Heroes organized Global Meetup Day, the program grew to include 20 Heroes, shared their tips on collaborating and a focus on community collaborations developed.

Starting this year, we’re excited to announce that Heroes now go global. Please welcome the following new members:

Oliver Sadie (London, UK)
Jay Stansfield (Lancashire, UK)
Dave McKeown (Devon, UK)
Ian Melvin (Fleetwood, UK)
Rónán Kearney (Derry, Ireland)
David Barclay (Newport, Wales)

Hear introductions from all current Heroes below as they share how they use SoundCloud and connect with the community. Please give them a warm welcome:

And that’s just to start: more Heroes will be added to the program in the coming weeks and months. Stay tuned for exciting news in the next few weeks about what the Heroes are cooking up by following their individual profiles and http://soundcloud.com/soundcloudheroes.

Get involved in the projects they lead, suggest ideas yourself that you want to achieve with the community, and connect with others. We’re looking forward to making more magic happen in the SoundCloud community with your talent and support!

Jane SoundCloud Speaks #6 – Collaborating and Connecting with SoundCloud Community Fellows Guidebooks & NightBus Radio

Last year, we introduced our audio series ‘SoundCloud Speaks‘, where we take an in-depth look into stories from the ‘cloud and the users behind them. Today in the new year, we’re excited to present our sixth installment.

In this episode of SoundCloud Speaks, we explore the different meanings of collaborations that take place online and offline. What are the challenges and triumphs of collaborating that change the music-making progress?

We asked Jack Kennedy and the band Guidebooks whose projects were among 15 others that inspire, engage and communicate the unique breadth of sound as part of the 2012 SoundCloud Community Fellowship.

Jack’s NightBus Radio traveled across the US by Greyhound Bus, capturing the community and culture of the different cities while making music with locals. Guidebooks took sound bites contributed directly from the SoundCloud community to lay the foundation for their finished EP, “From Where I’m Standing.

If you have SoundCloud collaborations that you’re working on or are proud of, share it with us in a timed comment or leave a comment on this post.

SoundCloud Speaks‘ is your show, so let us know what you’d like to hear. You can hear all previous episodes here. Thanks for listening.
