DavidDavid Weekend Quickie: Change track permalinks Comments

Here’s a quick one that will come in handy for track titles that are a little longer than usually. Until now, the permalink of your track got automatically generated from the track title. That changes today with the new little feature that lets you edit the permalinks of your tracks. You’re able to do that directly on the upload page and also later in your track settings.

The two nice little screen grabs below will help you find it.

Here’s the upload page:

100 uploaded - SoundCloud

And here’s how it looks in your track settings (also works for tracks you have already uploaded) – don’t forget to save:

Edit Audiotool.recording - SoundCloud

One important note: if you change the permalinks of existing tracks, please note that this will also affect links & widgets you’ve posted across the web. Please update these accordingly.

Have an awesome weekend, everyone!

Lenberg Announcing a PHP wrapper for the SoundCloud API Comments

As you’ve probably noticed, our wrapper announcements come often these days. Today we’re adding a PHP wrapper written by Anton Lindqvist to the list of available libraries for the SoundCloud API. Here you’ll find the documentation.

PHP is a widely used scripting language and the addition of this wrapper will open up for SoundCloud integration in a wide range of web services.

Check the list of application ideas and start hacking right away – even if you’re not planning to attend the music hack day tonight at Radialsystem V in Berlin.

We encourage 3rd party developers to join our API group and follow @soundcloudapi on twitter to get updates and take part in the discussions!

Lenberg Yet another SoundCloud API wrapper – ActionScript (AS3) Comments

Today we have yet a new API announcement – a universal SoundCloud API wrapper for Flash, Flex and AIR projects, written in ActionScript 3.0.

It’s written by Dorian Roy and here’s a quote from his blog:

This library enables your Flash or Flex projects to communicate with SoundCloud’s API to upload tracks, create playlists, edit user info and so on. It handles all the complicated OAuth authentication in the background so you only have to deal with a few simple methods.

Here you’ll find more info and a quick start tutorial for how to connect a Flash app to SoundCloud.

Lenberg Announcing a C wrapper for the SoundCloud API Comments

Today we’re very excited about adding a C wrapper to the list of libraries for the SoundCloud API. It’s written by Dave Gamble and supports OAuth 1.0a among other nifty features. With a few lines of code you can build desktop apps that can do things like:

  • Exporting audio to SoundCloud
  • Play the latest tracks shared publicly or privately
  • Handling track comments
  • And more…

Still two days left until Music Hack Day but check out the documentation and start hacking right away to get ahead of the competition with your C based SoundCloud apps. Also check out the featured apps and application ideas if you need inspiration to get going.

DavidDavid SoundCloud gets full WordPress.com integration Comments

SoundCloud has been steadily growing popularity within the musical blogosphere. As well as our DropBox feature, which allows music bloggers to easily receive demos & promos, we’ve noticed more and more people using SoundCloud to embed music into their posts. So we’ve been working hard to make this easier and easier for bloggers.

Today’s ‘YAY!’-moment is triggered by the excitement to finally be able to announce the the full WordPress.com integration. It is now super-easy to share SoundCloud tracks & sets blogs hosted on WordPress.com. Here’s the run-down of how that works.

If you look at the “Share” option of a track, set or group, you’ll see that we’ve added WordPress to the list of services we support.

Click on “WordPress” and you’ll be able to copy the shortcode to your clipboard and simply add it to the edit field of your blog:

This simple shortcode line in your Edit field…

… will turn into the good-looking SoundCloud player you all know:

SoundCloud Player

We think that’s pretty nifty, don’t you think? Oh and by the way: you can also customize the appearance of your the player and have it match the design of your blog. To do so, click on “customize your player” as seen in the first screenshot above.

One more thing: if you run a self-hosted blog on WordPress, make sure to check out the updated version of the SoundCloud ShortCode Plugin over on WordPress Plugin Directory.

Huge thanks go out to Raanan over at WordPress.com for making this possible.

Update: Here’s the WordPress announcement. Great!

Update 2: And below, find a nice how-to video that just got posted over on WordPress.tv:

DavidDavid New feature: Push to other Social Networks Comments

We’re excited to share the news with you about a new feature we just launched. We weren’t quite sure how to name it so we’re just going to call it “Push to other Social Networks” as it best describes what it actually does. With this new feature you can easily manage on what social networks other than SoundCloud you’d like your events (new favorites and new public tracks & sets) to get published. We currently support Twitter, MySpace and Facebook. Here it is:

Extensions

Find this feature in your Extensions settings. As you can see, the variety of settings gives you full control of what you’d like to see pushed to your other social profiles. You can also customize the messages for Facebook and MySpace to give it a personal touch.

If you’re an admin of one or more Facebook Pages, the cool thing is that you can also select the pages you want your events to be pushed to from the menu highlighted below. So if you’re an artist with your own Facebook Page you can automatically push events to your personal and to your artist profile. It’s a brand-new feature that Facebook only made available a few days ago. Pretty cool, huh!

Extensions - SoundCloud

Once you’ve uploaded a track, set or have favorited a track, it will automatically show up on your social network profile. Here’s how it looks in your Facebook stream:

Hat tip to our developer Johannes who spent the last couple of days building this feature. As always, please let us know what you think in the comments.

Update: Here’s the screencast explaining how it works:

EricEric Invoices for PRO Account payments Comments

We just launched a small but heavily requested feature for companies (labels, mastering studios, producers, etc) who bought any of our PRO accounts. You can now view invoices for each transaction in your payment settings. Ready to print for your records.

EricEric New feature: Replace already uploaded tracks Comments

We’ve just launched a small, but sometimes very useful feature on SoundCloud. It’s a new button on the edit-pages tracks that says “Replace this audio file”. Clicking it will bring up a file picker just like you would expect, so that you can upload a new version of a file you already uploaded. Very handy if you discover a glitch in the file you uploaded, or maybe you found that uncompressed version of a track you previously only uploaded in mp3 format.

The timed comments will stay at the same position as they did before, so keep this in mind and avoid uploading tracks with a different length. Replacing a track does not count as a file upload and won’t reduce your upload quota.

EricEric Motion! Video support now on SoundCloud Comments

We’ve just added basic video support for SoundCloud. It’s quite simple: You can enter a link to a video in the edit screen for a track. You can of course enter any link, but if the link is either a link to Vimeo, Google Video, Youtube, or Viddler, we will display a button that will open a nice inline video player so that people can watch the video directly in the track page.

It’s really slick, especially if you upload HD video to Vimeo and buy yourself a Vimeo Plus account. Check out a video for one of my tracks, City Ports, for example.

With that, the SoundCloud teams wishes you all a nice weekend!

EricEric New Feature: Upload and share multiple tracks in one go! Comments

I’m really glad to tell you that after having worked hard on our two top feature requests (uploading multiple tracks at once and privately sharing sets of tracks) we can now announce that it’s live, working, and outright kicking ass. Yes, you can now upload and share multiple tracks in one go on SoundCloud. Super-powerful for if you are doing promotion of new releases (Add artwork and metadata, gather comments, see who played and downloaded), and a big time-saver if you’re uploading multi-track sessions and stuff like that. As usual, you can upload tracks of any length, size, and format.

The way it works is very straightforward. In the uploader, you can now select more than one track. If you do it, a set will created with the tracks you upload, and notifications over both email and on the dashboard will be sent out to all people you share to. Here’s a 1-minute video to show you how it goes:

Also big thanks to Wareika for the great soundtrack for this video. If you have a hot track you’d like us to use for our future screencast, feel free to drop it in Nils’ DropBox.
