You may refer to today as Mardi Gras, Fat Tuesday, Shrove Tuesday or even just Pancake day. On this day we feast before we fast, so let’s hear some of those sounds of gluttony!

First step is to scour the cupboard for your ingredients, flour, eggs and milk. Once you’ve found them, put them in a bowl and whisk them all up in to your pancake batter. MollyDoraBianca shares with us the sounds of whisking her pancake batter, it sounds like she is running one the most calmest, jolly kitchens there is!

The most recognizable sound of pancakes in the kitchen is the frying, and the flipping. As you pour your ingredients in to the sizzling hot pan, you’ll begin to hear the crackle and pops of the batter as your pancake begins to cook.

Next step, the flip! This is where everything could go wrong, you await the thud of the pancake falling back through the air and returning to the pan, or maybe you’ll be unlucky and hear a whack as the pancake hit’s the ceiling and falls down to the floor. Here’s the sounds of a pretty hefty flip:

I hope wherever you are today you find this Tuesday to be a great excuse to fry up a pancake or two, BBC Radio4 and Radio4 Ext kindly left us a few tips this morning on how to make the perfect pancake.

It is the day of Saint Valentine, a day to cherish those we love and let it be known. Love is a universal language, spoken by humans and by animals. This week in Found Sounds we’re not going to get all soppy on you, we’re going to take a listen, and learn how it’s done in the animal kingdom. This week in Found Sounds we’ll be exploring the sounds of animal mating calls, the chat up lines and the woo’ing that goes on on Valentines day in the wild.

How would the story of “The Princess and the Frog” sound in real life? Let’s listen to those croaky creatures call out to their princess.

Some of the wild’s most vicious creatures have their soft side too! Caught in Bradenton, Florida, Bob Duthie recorded the sounds of an aligator mating call.

Now here’s something I bet you didn’t expect to stumble across today, this week, or even this year. The final mating call is from the friendly badger.

We hope this Valentines we were able to entertain you with the stranger side of love. Whoever you’re spending your day with, remember at least you’ll be treated with wine and chocolate rather than these sounds of the wild!

Edward Found Sounds: We’re Football Crazy, Football Mad! 2

Found Sounds is a SoundCloud community feature focusing on some of the most weird and wonderful sounds that can be found on SoundCloud. Count on new installments with some of our favorite sounds each Tuesday!

There’s something about the game of football that bring people together. At what other event would you see men and women of all ages coming together to chant, shout, laugh and cry at a ball? Each week masses of people visit their local stadium and put themselves through this roller-coaster of emotions. The sounds of elation when a goal is scored, or the groans of misery as your team looses are unique to these sporting events.

The British Premier League is the home of football and has some of the most entertaining and die-hard fans. Chelsea FC have recently joined SoundCloud to share with the world the dedication their fans show week on week to the team.

Liverpool FC are one of the most successful, long-running teams in the English league. Their infamous Kop end at Anfield Road is packed out each weekend as fans chant on ‘The Reds’.

Our local team here at SoundCloud is FC Union, who’re recognized as one of Germany’s non-conformist, “kult”, clubs run by the fans. After struggling financially for numerous seasons, FC Union are finally building up a following and have even made it up to the 2 Bundesliga. As a team lead by their fans, you can imagine they go pretty wild when they’re winning…

Whoever your team are, and whatever your chants, the sounds from inside a football ground are something that stay with you. Everyone remembers their first match and if you’ve never been to one, it’s worth it for the atmosphere alone.
