Location: Fort Collins, CO

What do you do? How do you use SoundCloud in your life?
I am a college student and I work at a salad restaurant. I consider myself a musician, but I also pursue many other creative endeavors including poetry, scriptwriting, and graphic design. I use SoundCloud to share my music and see how other people can inspire my creativity.

What is the collaboration idea that you would like to accomplish with the SoundCloud community?
My first collaboration idea is a “SoundFest” where musicians, poets, podcasters, and any other soundsmiths can come to present their work with each other and share their techniques. It’s always amazing to see the different insights that people can give you on your pieces and there are few things more fun than getting together with a group of like-minded people and having a good time. It’s a somewhat obtuse idea that can be fitted to the community’s needs.

What is your favorite place in the city and why?
I love the peak of Horsetooth just West of the city because there is no better way to see the city than from above. If you haven’t been up there yet, I highly recommend making a trip there! In the city itself I like the Alley Cat because I can always meet new people there with different interests and creative strengths.

What is your favorite sound and why?
I love the sound of snow falling; the way everything is muted and you can be anywhere but you only hear what is near you is entrancing to me. Here is mrz’s melting snow: http://soundcloud.com/mrz/melting-snow-silence

Jane Meet Winchester, VA SoundCloud Hero: Gracie Eisenhauer

SoundCloud Heroes are inspirational leaders who bring people together around sound by cultivating and engaging unique communities.

If you’ve missed it, we introduced our newest SoundCloud Heroes this past week! Say hello to Gracie Eisenhauer, a pianist who is studying to become an audio engineer. She wants to create an orchestral soundtrack with SoundClouders inspired by visuals that are also submitted from SoundClouders! Read on below.

Quick Facts:
Name: Gracie Eisenhauer
SoundCloud: Gracie Eisenhauer
Location: Winchester, VA

What do you do? How do you use SoundCloud in your life?
I am a rising college freshman majoring in piano with a degree in Music Production and Recording Technology and minors in voice and religion. My dream is to become an audio engineer in charge of recording a movie soundtrack. SoundCloud has always been an encouraging center for me. Whether it’s me finding a beginner artist and commenting on their piece to help them continue their music journey, or a group of SoundCloud pianists giving me helpful feedback on a piece I might be stuck on.

What is the collaboration idea that you would like to accomplish with the SoundCloud community?
I love how visuals give musicians inspiration. Not only musicians, but writers and artists as well! This collaboration won’t be using pictures of film clips from the internet…I want it to be from SoundClouder submissions and the Heroes can file through and choose a certain amount to focus on. Once you choose which visual you’ll use, you can do anything from creating a singer-songwriter piece discussing the theme or storyline of the visual, to creating an orchestral soundtrack! That’s the basic idea, but it could also be where each piece will have one story, one soundtrack, etc, and SoundClouders will sign up for each one, causing each visual to have a team collaboration! You’ll know more when the time comes.

What is your favorite place in the city and why?
Well, right now it’s the college I’ll be attending: Shenandoah University! Even though I’ve gone there to watch musicals and plays since I was five, I now see it in a whole new exciting light as it’s now my bridge from student to audio engineer. Even though it’s a small school, it’s a beautiful campus, and it has a really great Conservatory for music majors like me.

What is your favorite sound and why?
The echo of a live piano in a store or huge house not knowing where it comes from. The pounding rain on the gutters on the edge of a roof. The comfortable silence of a snowfall. The tuning of a cello. These are just a few to get you started, but telling me to choose one is like telling a mother to choose her favorite child!

Jane Meet Anaheim, CA SoundCloud Hero: Monica Dockery

SoundCloud Heroes are inspirational leaders who bring people together around sound by cultivating and engaging unique communities.

If you missed it, we’re introducing our newest SoundCloud Heroes this week! Please give a warm welcome to Monica Dockery, a self-taught musician who is looking to continue and lead collaborations with other SoundClouders through the SoundCloud Heroes program. Give her collaboration tracks a listen and get involved with her incredible collaboration idea (see below). Oh, and we can’t agree more that the sound of the ocean is a favorite, too!

Quick Facts:

Location: Anaheim, CA

What do you do? How do you use SoundCloud in your life?
I am a stay-at-home mom of a very energetic 4 year-old boy. I used to be a teacher of children with special needs, but now my focus is on homeschooling my son. I have always been a poet, since I can remember and have always had a deep love for music. About a year ago, I decided I’d start putting some of my songs to music. At the time, I had no idea how to make tracks, record, or play an instrument. I just knew it was something I wanted to do. So, I borrowed a guitar…that is now mine :) and started teaching myself how to play.

I began messing around with tracks on GarageBand. Then, I started putting songs together and posting them on my Words & Music blog. A follower on my blog introduced me to SoundCloud and since then, I’ve been fortunate enough to share my songs and to collaborate with several other SoundClouders. It has been such a great experience and I am learning so much. I’m looking forward to doing more and eventually putting a complete project together.

What is the collaboration idea that you would like to accomplish with the SoundCloud community?
There are a few collaboration ideas I had in mind. One is to rally up a diverse group of SoundClouders to put together a collection of works/sounds that, when combined, tells one cohesive story…much like a movie. Ideally, one would listen to the collection and will be able to distinguish the characters, the setting, and follow the storyline from beginning to end. Another idea I had is to get a team of female SoundClouders to collaborate on a project that is aimed at raising awareness of women who have been sexually and/or physically abused. My hope is to team up with other SoundClouders and with an organization called Women for Women to accomplish this. If people are willing, I would love to have the women who collaborated on the project to be a part of a fundraising event for this charity.

What is your favorite place in the city and why?
My favorite place in the city would be…Disneyland :). I know that sounds too cliche, but honestly I have so many wonderful memories of my son and I running around and having fun together. They are moments I never want to forget.

What is your favorite sound and why?
My favorite sound…hands down is the sound of the ocean. I can’t tell you how many songs the sound of the ocean has inspired me to write. It is so peaceful, so calming, and it reminds me that we are small, our moments here on this Earth are short…so do something and do something good.

Where else can we find you on the web?
You can find me at monicadockery or Camille Leone. Also, on my blog at http://monicadockery.wordpress.com. I have a Facebook page and a few homemade, unplugged videos of some acoustic songs.
