David The SoundCloud Desktop App

Please note: Due to resources, maintaining the desktop app became a bit difficult, so it has now been discontinued. We’re currently focusing energy on making the iOS app and web experience as good as they can be. If you enjoyed the playlist feature, the new SoundCloud allows this. If you would like to bring the SoundCloud experience to your desktop, you can try out this app (just keep in mind that we don’t have the proper resources to maintain this app at full speed).

With today’s launch of the Mac App Store, we’re happy to announce a new addition to the suite of native apps: the SoundCloud Desktop app for Mac. The coolest part: it’s currently a featured app in the Mac App Store in the section “What’s Hot” and also high up the list in the music category. The absolute coolest part: it’s free.

We’re bringing the SoundCloud experience to your desktop that allows you to access all the sounds shared exclusively with you to browse, listen to and favorite sounds. Create custom playlists and saved searches to see the sounds you need in an instant and download others for offline playback. And just like all the official SoundCloud apps it also includes record functionality that lets you easily capture and upload any sound whenever you need to share or store something quickly.

So whether you’re a serious sound professional who needs something to manage your daily workflow or just a casual creator who prefers the smooth native experience of OS X, SoundCloud Desktop does just the job.

Features:
- Record: capture your sounds right in the app and upload to your SoundCloud account in no time.
- Listen to, favorite and manage your exclusive and incoming tracks in one place.
- Browse and search any sound
- Create playlists and saved searches

Note:
Only tracks that have been made available for 3rd party applications will be accessible via SoundCloud Desktop. To change your settings, go to your track settings (pen icon above the waveform) and enable Apps.

Open the Mac App Store on your Mac after the software update that will install a dock icon for accessing the store. Or try this direct link.

As always, let us know what you think in the comments below. And if you like it, give kudos to Robb, brainchild behind the app. Well done!

David Capture And Share Your Sounds

The web today makes it really easy for us to share our experiences with the people we care about. Status messages on Twitter and Facebook, videos on YouTube or photos on Flickr, capturing a moment and sharing it with our friends, fans or family gives that moment a special meaning.

Imagine you’re in the subway and all of a sudden a group of strangers starts singing -  what’s known as a flashmob is happening right in front of your eyes (and ears). Or imagine you’re on tour with your band and have a super-funny story or acoustic demo of a brand-new song to share with your followers and fans. How awesome would it be if you could capture this moment on the move and instantly share your recording with your people? We think that would be pretty awesome…

Today, we’re excited about the release of the recording feature. The Record button will make it easy for you to capture all kinds of sounds right on SoundCloud & with the iPhone app and share them from anywhere to everywhere on the web: your website, social network profiles or simply between friends & family.

The updated iPhone app:

Did you just come up with a brilliant melody or a brand new poem and want to share it with your friends? Capturing this moment is now possible in our updated iPhone app that includes the Record feature.

Hit the REC button to get started and when you’re done, you can take a new photo or select one from your iPhone library. You can also choose your recording to be private or public and the app will recognize which of your social networking accounts are already connected with your SoundCloud account so you can seamlessly share your recording with your friends and followers on SoundCloud.

We’ve also added a few other updates to the iPhone app. It’s free and you can jump right into the iTunes App Store to get it. Read more details about the iPhone app in this blog post.

Record on SoundCloud:

You’ll find the same big REC button on the ‘Upload & Share‘ from where you’re able to quickly record any sound bites like an acoustic version of your new song or perhaps a conversation between friends. Also, the same REC button is included on other people’s DropBoxes, a cool way to share a personal voice message with others.

After you’ve finished recording, you can preview your sound and either upload it to your account or start over.

In a final step – just like you’re used to – upload some artwork, add a description and more metadata around your sound and decide if you want to publicly or privately share it with your SoundCloud followers and friends across the web.

We’re excited and proud about this new feature and can’t wait to see and hear the many different sounds you’ll create. As always, we’re eager to hear what you think about this update so this time, why not record your feedback as an audio message and post the link to the comments.

David The SoundCloud iPhone App

With the new update of the iPhone app, we’re coming one step closer to the full SoundCloud experience on your mobile. Most importantly, the app is now available for free for all users. If you can’t wait to get it, jump right into the iTunes App Store.

New update: iPhone App by Weatherman

As mentioned in today’s update, the iPhone app now also supports the Record feature and will allow you to capture and share any type of sound while you’re on the move. So no matter if it’s the first chords of an acoustic demo version of a new song, a voice memo, interview or a new joke for your next stand-up session, the SoundCloud  iPhone app will let you record and share your sounds in just a moment.

Here’s a run-down of the new features:

  • Record: capture your sounds on-the-go and share them directly to Facebook, Twitter and MySpace (only iPhone 3Gs and 4 since the app relies on the AAC hardware encoder)
  • Browse and search user profiles
  • Share any public track to Facebook & Twitter
