Evan Selection Panel announced for SoundCloud Fellowship

One of our favorite things here at SoundCloud is working with folks who are experienced, knowledgeable and passionate about the world of sound. Through our Fellowship program, we’re hoping to support some truly mind-blowing audio projects, so it seems only right that we ask true experts in the community to help us choose this year’s Fellows.

Today, we’re thrilled to announce the panel of judges who will help choose our 2012 Fellowships!

We’ve also had some questions regarding what type of support the fellowship program will provide. We value your time, effort, and experience as creators and want to help you succeed however we can. In addition to the support of our amazing community, the program will also offer some financial support (up to $5,000). You can find more information about all of this in the project-submission guide.

David SoundCloud and the Arts

Sound has always had a relationship with art & culture, from performances and sound art to audio museum tours, sound is often a big part of the experience. Now SoundCloud is popping up in the world of art & culture too!

Mini Operas music making round introduction from English National Opera on Vimeo.

We are happy to support a number of interesting events taking place around the world, providing the sound technology in various ways. Currently, we’re involved in the English National Opera’s Soundtrack competition Mini Operas which is running until 23 July. This groundbreaking worldwide search for fresh, new operatic talent including writers, composers and performers is seeking to do no less than reinvent opera for future generations. Competition entries are submitted via SoundCloud, and we’re excited about our participation in attracting new audiences and breaking new ground in the field of opera.

In August, we’ll kick off another round of our involvement with the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, the largest performing arts festival in the world, this time with a whole new level of sound technology integration. Performers at the festival , which covers a wide range of artistic tastes like for example comedy or poetry, will be able to record and upload sounds to the festival website using SoundCloud.

We’re also working with London’s Institute of Contemporary Arts in staging Soundworks, which will run until September 16. This virtual sound exhibition showcases hundreds of sound works by artists from all over the world. SoundCloud is the hosting platform through which Soundworks’ sound art is delivered, not only on the event website, but it can also be explored at the actual exhibition space on a listening pod provided.

If you live in the UK, you can get involved in the Arts by becoming our Arts and Culture Fellow, but hurry the deadline to apply is only 15 days away! More information here.

David Thank You – 10 Million Times

When we started SoundCloud a few years ago, we had the vision of enabling people to create and share sound more easily and collaboratively.

Today, we’re more than thrilled to extend ten million Thank You’s to our 10 million registered SoundClouders.

Ten million is not just a number to us, it is proof that we’re not alone on our mission to unmute the web and it gives us goosebumps to know that more than ten million people from around the world have been finding value in SoundCloud in many different ways. As of today:

  • Sound is mobile: Over 5 million official SoundCloud apps have been downloaded
  • Sound is developing: Over 10,000 apps being developed on SoundCloud’s open platform. Recent additions include integrations with professional music creation software Pro Tools and Cakewalk.
  • Sound is more than music: Over 3.3 million different tags show the breadth of sounds on SoundCloud, which now includes everything from journalists & bloggers (Robert Scoble, Mike Butcher), to publishing (Penguin Books UK), to education (Stanford).

Please join us to celebrate this huge milestone with us by listening to a ‘Story Wheel’, in which our co-founders Alex & Eric reflect on SoundCloud’s journey so far. Simply click the image below to access the Story Wheel.

Oh, and if you’d like to create your own Story Wheel to tell a story behind your Instagram photos, it all starts here.

Thanks, all. You rock.
