Our API has always been an important part of the SoundCloud platform. It exposes the full range of SoundCloud functionality for third-party developers. They can upload tracks, access comments & tracks, edit metadata and more. From iPhone apps & Twitter tools to Cloudplayers and music store integrations, the potential for things that can be built using the SoundCloud API is huge.

So we’re excited to be taking part in the first ever Music Hack Day on 11/12 July. Several members of our team will be in London presenting and providing support for our API during the event. We’ll also be joined by a number of our peers including 7digital, BBC Music, Echonest, Gigulate, Last.fm & Songkick. And as if that wasn’t enough there’s going to be some really interesting workshops from Tinker.it and RjDj.

So as well as a full weekend of hacking it’s also going to be a great opportunity to meet all of the folks from across Europe that are busy creating the next generation of music apps. If you’re a coder, hacker or developer and would like to get your hands dirty building some interesting projects, apps or mashups then get over to http://musichackday.org and register before all the places go!

And of course for anyone interested in our API but not able to attend then you can still dive straight in by checking all our documentation, demos and example code here. Anyone interested in reading about the background and strategies around our open API should read this interview with Eric.
