Sample Diggers – Listen Up!
– Find your inspiration in the Cloud.
Ever since the Sample Time! post a few months ago users have been sharing massive amounts of samples. Due to this ever increasing collection, App Developers are building applications based on samples as well. A good example is Gliss (see video below). Seeing that, it’s more and more obvious that sample material is getting closer to the music making process. Gotta love it!
Long, short, quirky – it’s all there! Here’s some tips and tricks on how to find them.
Finding Sounds
- Advanced Search is your best friend. Here’s the result of a search for bird samples. Go ahead and try it out for yourself at soundcloud.com/search.
- At soundcloud.com/creativecommons/sample_collections and soundcloud.com/creativecommons/samples you’ll find updates on all samples being Creative Commons. A gold mine!
- Other cool sample projects include Rekkerd, OLPC samples, 365breaks.com.
Sharing your Own
- Scup is an excellent app for uploading multiple samples and attaching meta data to make them search-able. Basic instruction and download links can be found at soundcloud.com/101/scup and more ideas for uploaders at here.
