Fun Friday #2: Petar Djekic
For our second Fabulously Fun Friday post, help me in welcoming scooter enthusiast, digital librarian and all around rad guy Petar Djekic to the SoundCloud team in Berlin!
Hey Petar, so I want to know, what’s your role at SoundCloud? What do you like about it so far?
I’m part of the content management team at SoundCloud which is a bit like being a digital librarian, taking care that every piece of sound is properly labeled and sits on its right virtual shelf. Basically I eat meta data for breakfast, lunch and dinner. What never ceases to amaze me is the wealth of sounds that we have. Many people think of electronic music when they think of SoundCloud but there’s everything, from The Beatles to the sound of ice melting .
I know you are from Germany, but where specifically?
I was born in Bonn, Germany’s former capital where I grew up and went to college in nearby Cologne. I moved to Berlin three years ago and loving it so far!
What do you like about Berlin so far? What are your top 3 things in Berlin a new person needs to visit?
Its probably the relaxed vibe and easy-going attitude paired with an unbeatable selection of bars, clubs, and places to get away from it all. Top 3 things to see is a tough one, but a stroll through the Brandenburger Tor along Unter der Linden is not to be missed. A trip to one of Berlin’s lakes is a must in the summer as well as a visit to Schloss Charlottenburg or Schloss Sanssouci in Potsdam with its beautiful gardens.
Cool, thanks for the tips! What kind of shows or concerts do you like going to?
I love going to shows in unusual spaces like abandoned buildings, warehouses, or even baths.
Any favourite music on SoundCloud right now?
I quite dig Beastie Boys new track Don’t Play No Game That I Can’t Win .
Don’t Play No Game That I Can’t Win (featuring Santigold) by Beastie Boys
An artist I recently discovered on the Cloud is Marek Hemmann and Alias is one of my favorite tracks. Alias by marekhemmann
Do you have [one or two or] three reasons why someone should join SoundCloud, or your team in particular?
Free pizza on Thursdays..oh wait there’s more, amazing people, amazing product, its simply awesome!
Any fun facts about yourself?
Hmm…I had my job interview with SoundCloud while riding on a train in India. I was traveling from Bodghaya, the birthplace of Buddhism, to Kolkata when Alex called me up. The reception was a bit sketchy but it all worked out pretty well me thinks.
Ha, that is amazingly cool and I am glad you joined the team! Thanks Petar! Don’t forget to say “Hallo” to him in the comments below :) .
