Found Sounds: Automania
Found Sounds is a SoundCloud community feature focusing on some of the most weird and wonderful sounds that can be found on SoundCloud. Count on new installments with some of our favorite sounds each Tuesday!
For many people, cars aren’t just a handy method of transportation — they’re an integral part of a way of life. If you’ve got a long commute, they may even be the spot where you spend most of your time! So it’s no surprise that there’s a community of field recorders who have turned their mics to the cars in their life. In today’s edition of Found Sounds, we’ll look at some of the best car sounds on the ‘Cloud.
Our first sound is an appropriate way to get this party started: it’s a recording of the starting of a Ford Fiesta, by Enos Desjardins. The one we’re listening to today is the engine noise, but Desjardins has also recorded the exhaust noise, a mixture of the two, and also pass-bys and onboard noises. All in all, there’s hardly a better resource on the web for Fiesta sounds that Desjardins’ SoundCloud profile! Check it out below.

Coming up next is a classic peel out by a Cobra clone. Vroom! This one was recorded by TrackTimeAudio, who records all kinds of car sounds on his SoundCloud page, and writes all about it on the TrackTimeAudio blog. TrackTimeAudio’s tagline is “Speed sounds awesome.” Sounds about right to me!

The next auto sound comes from the car’s two-wheeled sibling, the motorcycle. And not just one of them, but a party of about 50, gathered for a commercial, according to Miguel Isaza, who was on the scene and made the recording. What does a party of 50 honking motorcycles sound like? Give it a listen!
Our final sound comes from pro recorder Colin Hart, who’s put together an entire library of drag racing sounds called “My Hart is Racing“. He’s uploaded a few samples in the announcement of the library release that are sure to have your heart racing, too. Check out the sounds to feel like you’re right on the edge of the action.
