A simple hello by marcohamersma
Hey Marco!!
Hello Hello
What’s your role? What do you like about it so far?
I’m a developer intern on the app team but I’m working on my graduation project for my university. In a nutshell: I’m looking at how sound on the internet can be used in cool new ways.
Where are you originally from and how did re-location to Berlin work out for you?
I am from a town near Rotterdam, The Netherlands. Berlin pretty much felt great right from the start. The first weeks are a bit of an adventure because you’re new in town but Berlin is a nice city to just stroll through.
What kind of shows do you like going to?
I’ve really been into shoegaze and electronic music recently so I’ve mostly been seeing those kinds of shows. I prefer smaller gigs because I like to see things up close — I play guitar myself, so that might explain that.
What do you like about Berlin so far?
As I said it pretty much felt great from the start. The vibe is really cool and I used to do a lot of strolling around with my camera. Also, the city is very laidback and there is a lot of stuff to do + interesting places to visit. Before Berlin I had been living in a suburban town where the public transport stops at 00:30. Let’s say I’m very happy that that’s not an issue here.
Any favourite sounds on the ‘Cloud right now?
One of my first discoveries on SoundCloud is a recent SoundClouder of the day called Corbu. They make electronic music with guitars and the result is some very cool music. I like their nice atmospheric guitar sound.

A fun one: Recently I was at a local coffee place where they played a conversation between two chatbots in the toilet (Yes, that’s Berlin for you). It’s ridiculous and a bit absurd, but I think it was worth a mention.

What are one, two or three reasons why someone should join SoundCloud, or our team in particular?
For starters, the team is filled with very nice and awesome people that are all very talented and passionate at what they do. SoundCloud has the people and the community to do some really awesome stuff with sound on the internet.
Any fun facts about yourself?
I’m a developer intern here but I’m studying a design course/program at school. I like both designing and programming and it’s a very interesting and useful combination of skills. I also like playing guitar and messing around in audio applications.
