Found Sounds: The Dog Days

Found Sounds: The Dog Days

Found Sounds is a SoundCloud community feature focusing on some of the most weird and wonderful sounds that can be found on SoundCloud. Count on new installments with some of our favorite sounds each Tuesday!

The middle of July is here: we’re now into the dog days of summer. So as the weather heats up, and you’re howling with the heat, maybe it’s time to take a look at man’s best friend and be thankful you don’t have to pant to let off heat. This week we turn our ears to the sometimes weird sounds of dogs on SoundCloud.

The first dog sound comes from Found Sounds regular and all around class act Jabo Giddens, and it’s the most straightforward sound in the bunch. Dogs barking! Doubtless familiar if you live near a dog owner, there is some interesting interplay between the different dogs. And the recording is great quality: you hear not just the barks, but the breathing and moving of the dogs. Great stuff!

Up next is one of the stranger dog sounds on Sound Cloud: no barking, whining, or scratching, but this time sliding around a hardwood floor. Sound designer Josh Lord recorded this sound with a new field recorder, and there’s just enough collar noise and panting to pick out for sure that this is a dog. He suggests it might be nice for the sound of a creepy creature crawling around. I think he might be right!

Speaking of creepy creatures, this next one is liable to give you nightmares. Chuck Russom, who recorded one of the fireworks sounds we highlighted last week, provides this pug “talking” noise. It’s one of the weirdest dog voices on record!

That’s all for this week’s Found Sounds! Tune in next week for more crazy sounds from the ‘Cloud.
