Fun Friday: Meet Patrick Ellis

Fun Friday: Meet Patrick Ellis

This week please help me welcome Patrick Ellis to the team in Berlin!

Hej Patrick! Wie gehts?

Ça va bien!

First, welcome to the SoundCloud team in Berlin! Can you tell us what your role entails and what you enjoy most about it so far?

I’m a developer on the Web App team, meaning I can break the website in a number of ways, ranging from database migrations to ajax requests. It’s like being a swiss army knife, but one that can play with legos, order burritos in German, and break a multimillion-user audio platform.

Where are you from originally and how was relocation for you?

Barrett, MN, the “Center of the Universe”. Although I went to school at Brown, so I moved to Berlin from Providence.

What are your favorite things to do in Berlin so far and what do you like about the city?

Falafel. I’ve gotten used to just being able to walk in a direction and end up at a falafel place in under a block. I only realized how instinctive this had become when I was on holiday in Croatia last week, wondering why I spent so many hours wandering around town around lunchtime.

And Club Mate. I…how did I survive over two decades without this stuff?

How were you introduced to SoundCloud?

I used it for my own music.

Burrito Friday, Parker’s Ukelele, a culture of honesty & technological openness, Legos…this is turning out to be the All-Hyperlink Interview.

What are your favorite sounds you have found while scouring SoundCloud?

Well, all of my favorites.

But in particular, this guy Robbie is absolutely killing it – keep an eye on him.

Also, I’ve got high hopes for the future of Cool Story, Bro.

Finally, do you have any fun facts that we should know about?

I used to be a beekeeper.

Rad, thanks Patrick! You can follow Mr. Ellis on SoundCloud!
