Fun Friday: Meet Janine Wendel
This week please help me welcome Janine Wendel to the SoundCloud team in Berlin! Don’t forget to say “hey” to her in the comments below:
Thank you for doing this interview with me and taking time out of your busy day. How are ya doing?
I am feeling very well, thank you. It was a great week :-)!
You have lived in Germany for a long time, how do you like Berlin and where are you originally from?
I have lived for five years in Berlin, but I’m originally from Bernau, a small medieval town in Brandenburg. I love Berlin because it is a great city with many different faces. I like how Berlin is very multi-cultural. It is easy for everyone to fit in here – there is a legendary party culture but if you like sports, nature and the outdoors, you are in the right place as well. At the moment I live in the north of Berlin and enjoy nature, the water and the woods yet in just a few minutes, I can be in the middle of Berlin!
Can you tell us what your your role at SoundCloud is? Also, how do you like working in the Berlin HQ ?
I am an Accounting Manager at SoundCloud. I do the monthly accounting and financial statements, watch the tax law, make sure everything is going well and take care of everything financial (payments, write bills, insurance, tax authority audits, interface for controlling, contact person for the UK tax office and the German tax office, travel expenses ….).
It is awesome working in the SoundCloud office because everything is so laid back yet everyone works so incredibly hard. Also, my fellow employees are so kind and fun to work with!
How did you get introduced to SoundCloud and what do you love most about it?
I got recruited for SoundCloud and came knowing that this company would be different. I was excited to work in an environment of creativity, music and technology. I love working here so far!
Can you give us a few reasons why it is great working at SoundCloud?
I’ve said it a few times already: I like the concept and the idea of SoundCloud! I love the enthusiasm, charisma and overall attitude of the company as a whole.
Finally, do you have any fun facts about yourself that you would like to share?
Hmmm…here are two:
Without my contact lenses I am very blind and I have a very happy turtle named Horst.
Thank you for the great interview Janine! If you would like to say “Hi” to her, please do so in the comments!
