Community Fellowship: The NYC Nomad by Ed Casabian

Community Fellowship: The NYC Nomad by Ed Casabian

Today three of our first Community Fellows (Eduardo, Katie and Alex) have wrapped up their projects with us and two of our fellows (Evan and Ed) have dropped in to update us on their progress! Each fellow took time to reflect on how they used sound to tell stories, learn about their cities and use sound in a different way, here is what Ed (NYC Nomad) had to say:

Since beginning my SoundCloud fellowship with my NYC Nomad project, I’ve met a variety of people who define the unique neighborhoods of New York City.  The simple question of “who is the most interesting person in this neighborhood?” connects me with fascinating people in the different places I live in.  I’ve met people like Bernie, who has lived in Stuytown since it was constructed; Julia, who has spent all 81 years of her life on Thompson street in SoHo; and Vinny, who has seen the transformation of Carroll Gardens during the 70 years his store has been on the block.

I’m hoping to receive some user submissions on the City Stories SoundCloud group. If there is someone interesting in your neighborhood (in any city), try interviewing them with the SoundCloud iPhone App. I’ll feature it on http://thenycnomad.tumblr.com and even help with basic editing if you need it!
