SoundCloud Voices

SoundCloud Voices

SoundCloud Voices is a weekly Community feature focusing on new spoken word creators found on SoundCloud. It might be a podcast, radio show, audio book, interview, audio messages, a poem, anything! Keep an eye out every Thursday for a new post.

The SoundCloud community is very much an international one and this is also very true for the radio stations using the site, which is the topic of this weeks voices post. We have three great stations using SoundCloud from the U.K, Germany and Africa. Their names – WADR (West African Democracy Radio), SWR3 (Südwestrundfunk) and XFM.

The West African Democracy Radio station call themselves “La Radio pour la dialogue”, or promoting dialogue.  They are a trans territorial station set up to facilitate development information between and among countries in West Africa, including Mauritania, Chad and Cameroon.  In the station’s first phase, it targeted mainly the Mano River Union (MRU) countries of Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone.  The station then uses SoundCloud for the sharing and distribution of their audio on their website and Facebook, take a look at how they are using our new HTML5 player on their site WADR.org and the brilliant open source platform Newscoop by Source Fabric which enabled them to build the site and has SoundCloud integration!

Next up is Germany’s SWR3 who are part of Sudwestrundfunk, a public broadcasting company in the south west of German.  Based in Stuttgart, Baden-Baden and Mainz SWR3 is the pop and contemporary culture station with a focus on the ages 14-39.  They have just started using SoundCloud for their comedy show “Fragen Sie Kretschmann”.  Take a listen below and visit their Facebook page where they share these snippets on a regular basis!

And finally there is London’s XFM radio station.  Comedian Danny Wallace hosts the XFM Breakfast Show these days and has been posting interviews, jokes and small regular items to his Facebook page using SoundCloud.  Take a listen to his latest interview with Ricky Gervais below!

If you are interested in trying out SoundCloud as a spoken word podcast platform we are currently running a beta program which you can sign up for via this form. Successful candidates will be emailed with further details.
