SoundCloud Voices

SoundCloud Voices

SoundCloud Voices is a weekly Community feature focusing on new spoken word creators found on SoundCloud.  It might be a podcast, radio show, audio book, interview, audio messages, a poem, anything!  Keep an eye out every Thursday for a new post.

SoundCloud Voices this week takes a look at the wonderful world of story telling with three equally brilliant podcasts, two syndicated by public radio in America and one by a group of film makers.  Today we’d like to present The Kitchen Sisters, Snap Judgment and The New American Storytellers.

First, we are happy to announce Peabody award winning The Kitchen Sisters have started using SoundCloud to post their brilliant stories to SoundCloud.  Having produced over 200 stories for NPR, hosts Davia Nelson and Nikki Silva  chronicle hidden bits of history and subjects who have shaped our diverse cultural landscape.  They have started posting some of their recent project – The Hidden World of Girls, a year-long series on NPR exploring the lives of girls and the women they become.  Take a listen to a a recently created episode, hosted by comedian Tina Fey, below!

Next up is National Public Radio’s Snap Judgment.  Winner of the Public Radio Talent Quest, host Glynn Washington delivers a raw, musical brand of storytelling, daring listeners to see the world through the eyes of another.  Or as they call it “Storytelling….with a beat”.  Take a listen to the most recent show “Gratitude” below and go check out their Facebook and site for more!

And finally, a little different kind of story telling from The New American Storytellers.  It’s a weekly podcast from storytellers & filmmakers, for storytellers & filmmakers.  So essentially the guys from Vinegar Hill, their community of creatives, talk about the stories behind making their stories!  Very meta.  Take a listen to a recent episode where they talk about creating the sound for their new short film “The Cosmonaut”.

If you are interested in trying out SoundCloud as a spoken word podcast platform we are currently running a beta program which you can sign up for via this form.  Successful candidates will be emailed with further details.
