SoundCloud Voices

SoundCloud Voices

SoundCloud Voices is a weekly Community feature focusing on new spoken word creators found on SoundCloud. It might be a podcast, radio show, audio book, interview, audio messages, a poem, anything! Keep an eye out every Thursday for a new post.

This week we are going local – a local app and a local podcast.  The creators of the brilliant Hackney Podcast have been working hard for over a year now on a little project to be released in advance of the 2012 London Olympics.  The app is called Hackney Hear and focuses on, unsurprisingly, Hackney.  In their own words – “Triggering sound via GPS location, Hackney Hear provides an innovative ways to explore and rediscover London’s east end by combining immersive sounds and storytelling.”  The app uses SoundCloud to store the audio which once downloaded works anywhere in London Fields or Broadway Market.  Put your headphones on and you can explore the area, standing still to hear more of each story or moving on to hear something new – there are stories from local residents, celebs, sound archives and commissions from artists from the area. It’s like an audio history tour where you get to hear brilliant stories of people from Hackney life.  If this sample podcast below, showcasing the app’s content, is anything to go by, it’s an incredible interactive audio guide that is well worth downloading.  You can download the app here.

And if you are impressed by the app, take a listen to the brilliant Hackney Podcast series which are also all on SoundCloud for your listening pleasure:
