Jami SoundCloud and Ableton

Ableton has long been the number one choice for musicians, whether for songwriting, making beats, remixing or live performances. At SoundCloud, we know that many of you depend upon it, indeed many of our team members use it on a regular basis privately (and it’s even been used in a masterclass or two!). It’s therefore with great pleasure to announce that SoundCloud and Ableton, two great Berlin audio companies, have teamed up to give our communities something unprecedented and very, very awesome.

The news? Ableton now comes with SoundCloud sharing baked in – yes, upload straight to SoundCloud. To celebrate, SoundCloud is offering Ableton users 5 months of SoundCloud Pro, for free. You can find the details here. So what does the SoundCloud community get? Ableton has been generous enough to offer the entire SoundCloud community a free copy of Live Lite 8 so that everyone can get started making their own sounds.

(Our free Live Lite offer was only available until the 31st of May, 2012. You can however check out Ableton’s 30 day trial at http://www.ableton.com/free-trial )

And that’s not all – come May there will be a competition to compose a sound with parts from M83, Junior Boys and Nosaj Thing. Of course, you’ll need Ableton with SoundCloud to enter,  so make sure to update your copy of Ableton to get SoundCloud sharing and if you don’t have it yet, claim your copy today!

Will it be a ‘buggy’ as the current uploading method which continually tells me it’s preparing for transcoding… very, very annoying…

Hey, I’m on Live 8.3 right now and see no option anywhere in the ‘export audio/video’ dialog to upload to SoundCloud. Anyone else found it yet?

Awesome stuff though, look forward to using it!

Hey Andy, sorry to hear you are having troubles with transcoding. Can you send us a message here: http://snd.sc/zS2V3u and we’ll see how we can assist.

Unsure how this will work – why will i need Live Lite? Are Ableton going release an update download with the sharing functionality as part of that?

I got an email today that says “Get Live Lite 8 For Free” and looks very Soundcloudy but all the links in it go to the domain soundcloud.cmail5.com/. I hate clicking links that offer stuff and don’t point back to where they should. Looks suspicious, no?

to be honest guys that’s really no biggie. Have you actually tried using Live Light? It’s useless, 8 tracks, 4 plugin’s, whats the point? it’s not even worth the effort of installing. At least Reaper (free) is a full blown DAW with no limitations.

Seriously, you might as well give away a bucket with holes in it (to show how good the full bucket is). But giving away something this useless isn’t really a ‘give away’ so much as a ‘throw out’, same as you do with rubbish – and nothing to get excited about.

Now if you gave away Cubase Elements then that would be awesome but Live Lite is too limited for most amateurs and non-muso’s, and anyone who is musical will need something useable which Live Lite just isn’t. I occasionally use mine if i want to merge less than 8 loops of different BPM’s, which is about never.

live vs fl or fl vs live..this is not musician talk…. both suckjust becouse u can really find better daw.s & workflow on the market!

Me an Fl Studio user find it pretty good :) even with the limitations I’m guessing it’s a good way to start using Ableton to learn it and get familiar with the workflow. I still prefer FL Studio though :) you load any plugin there.

look people every Daw , cant live without other one , every daw has its own abilities that other daws cant . so i disagree with that saying ableton is the N.1 , when you work *Rewire , you will know what im talking about . ..

    Thanks for the freebie, guys.
Have a good day, keep up the good work and keep letting us making tracks!

Thanks for the free download, but why would I use it when Logic Pro 9 has been working just fine for me?

Anybody that compare Ableton to another DAW is ridiculous. Main ingredient besides the standard looking arrangement view like Protools and Cubase is that Ableton has the switchable Session view that no other DAW has available. Session view to Ableton is like the nicotine in a cigarette. In fact Ableton is powerful enough to easily turn on and off electronic equipment in your home.

that is a personal approach. Every person is different. I also work with Ableton live, but that doesn’t mean that because is the best option for me it is of course the best option for the rest of the world

For sure man, Ableton Live is hybrid of a DAW and a musical instrument.

If you’re doing sound for a video Live is not the software to score with, but say you still want to use it to compose the music. ReWire it to something else and record your instruments in the other DAW

Ableton can do stuff FL can’t and FL can do stuff Ableton can’t

FL is great for rendering visualizations so you can put recordings on a demo reel without it being a boring black screen

    Here’s my vies….

Until you accidentally/on purposely buy an apc controller, which is a dedicated controller for ableton, you will realise the full potential of this software. You will need to learn a lot of new stuff though.  Unfortunately there isn’t a dedicated performance controller for fl studio, only standard midi. I wonder why there isn’t an fl studio controller & why in the new version of fl studio due out soon, they are trying to make it like ableton, self-confessed by image-line themselves.

I used to be an ‘FL Studio Head’, until I bought the APC. I’d had a go of live before, couldnt grasp it what-so-ever, until I was forced to. FL Studio maybe better for you, BECAUSE IT IS WHAT YOUR USED TO AND YOUR AFRAID TO TRY NEW THINGS.

Do like I done and give yourself a reason/motivation to learn Ableton Live and I promise, you won’t be sorry.

There are way too many people I have met through soundcloud that produce far superior beats and songs than I can… many of them use FL, some use Logic, I use Ableton.  It’s not really the vehicle you use as much as how well you can drive.

I have already enabled News letter of my account for almost two weeks, but until now I still have not received any letter. It’s already April 13th now.

i agree no one schold to limit your self just with one program….i think the knowloge never is to much and i think maybe some softwares become more easy to use to anothers but i think everyone of them ableton,fl,reason, cubase, logic pro ….etc… are good to use and is not the software make the music is the user :))))))

if you think you didn’t receive the newsletter, check your spam, i just found there the soundcloud newsletter that i thought i hadn’t received…

dont beat yourself up. soundcloud has the worst audio quality on the internet. youtube videos are better than soundcloud. i’d gladly give up my over priced free soundcloud pro account.  a soundcloud button in my DAW!!  WTF IS DAT SHIT!!!!!!!!

  25. Tim Blackburn

My 8 y.o. loves it! He was watching me using it and wanted a go himself. He even started making a tune with a few of the loops and samples! Shows how easy the basics are if an 8 y.o can pick it up straightaway. The only problem is that he now wants me to buy the full version because he got frustrated with only being able to use 8 tracks! You can see what he did on Youtube if you search for “Ableton Live 8 for kids”. Thanks Soundcloud and Ableton!
