SoundCloud Voices – Edinburgh Festival Fringe!
SoundCloud Voices is a weekly Community feature focusing on new spoken word creators found on SoundCloud. It might be a podcast, radio show, audio book, interview, audio messages, a poem, anything! Keep an eye out every Thursday for a new post.
It’s that time of year again; starting tomorrow Edinburgh opens it’s doors for the Fringe Festival. Three weeks of performers of all shapes, sizes, genres and budgets will be flocking to Scotland to show case their performances. It you like comedy, theatre, poetry, music, cabaret, dance and more then this is the festival for you! This year we are proud to announce we have partnered up directly with Fringe enabling any performer to add sound to their performer profile. The idea behind the partnership was to empower all performers to show off what their show will be about – that can be in the shape of a short audio description, and snippet of a past show, an interview, podcast – anything audio! Take a listen below to some performers sounds and visit their Fringe profiles on EdFringe.com to see the integration in full effect!
First up take a listen to Helen Arney – a comedian, musician and scientist! A regular contributor to the BBC radio show Infinite Monkey Cage, Helen’s show is comedy stand-up, science, songs and silliness. No need for me to explain, just take a listen to below and please visit her Fringe Performer Profile for more audio!
Dracula: Sex, Sucking and Stardom was too good a title not to take a quick listen to. Last Chance Saloon, celebrated purveyors of Guilty Pleasure Theatre, revamp Bram Stoker’s Dracula with their own brand of the ridiculous to create a slick show of absurd, deft theatre comedy. Follow Jonathan Harker to Transylvania where he discovers the Count’s evil plans and love of all things showbiz. Take a listen to some samples of the show on their performer profile.
Next up, ‘imagine if Derren Brown was funny’. Well that’s what you get with comedy mind reader Doug Segal, with his show “How to read minds and influence people”. Take a listen to an interview below with Doug on a radio show where he does a little bit of mind reading, and check out his performer profile.
As part of the festival, there is also a “Free Fringe”. Dodgers Comedy are one of these shows, offering up a jam-packed hour of stand-up from the cream of Norwich’s up-and-coming comedy crop, all for free! Take a listen below and check out the rest of the audio from all the stars of the show on their profile!
Finally, amongst all the comedy, theatre and cabaret, there is also a lot of musicians performing at the festival. Death Boogie caught our attention which is a multimedia hip hop poetry musical and features the group The Might Third Rail from New York.
Join us for a Meetup at the Pear Tree on Sunday at 7pm in Edinburgh! We want to see you there, for more information RSVP via our Meetup.com event here.
