Meet Rockford, IL SoundCloud Hero: Christopher D. Sims

We continue our introductions of our newest SoundCloud Heroes. Please give a warm welcome to Christopher D. Sims, aka UniverSouLove. Christopher is the Poet Laureate of Rockford, IL, three-time Poetry Slam champion and has published two poetry books. If there’s a spoken word artist you want to connect with, he’s your man. What do you do? How do you use SoundCloud in your life?
These days I spend my time community organizing as an activist, and I am always involved in something that is poetry related. Recently I have re-established myself in the local Northern Illinois rap scene. I am very family- oriented, so I am always around my family having fun with my nieces and nephews.

I am using SoundCloud as a network I tap into to collaborate with producers, share our collaborations, and to share constructive dialogue with other aspiring lyricists and musicians. It has become my go-to portal for what is really good in creative efforts.

What are your aspirations for the SoundCloud community?
I want to create a project solely based on social justice issues. I envision lyricists, writers, and producers of all genres crafting a collaboration that addresses poverty, A.I.D.S., unemployment, homelessness, and other related issues that plague our world.

What is your favorite place in the city and why?
My favorite place in Rockford, IL is JustGoods. JustGoods is a fair trade store that sells the goods of people from third world nations who are using their crafts to make a living. JustGoods also has a music room where live music can be heard on a weekly basis. It is full of creativity, peaceful energy, and positive people.

What is your favorite sound and why?
My favorite sound is the quiet I get in the morning while I am stretching my six foot two inch frame. It helps me come alive in the morning and balance myself. I am also a huge fan of the sound of jazz music.
