SoundCloud Voices

SoundCloud Voices

SoundCloud Voices is a weekly Community feature focusing on new spoken word creators found on SoundCloud. It might be a podcast, radio show, audio book, interview, audio messages, a poem, anything! Keep an eye out every Thursday for a new post.

This week on SoundCloud Voices we take a look at two interactive news programs that might take your fancy up on the cloud.  Al Jazeera’s The Stream and BBC’s World Have Your Say are two interesting news programs in that they both interact with their audiences via social media and even involve them during the broadcasts.

Firstly Al Jazeera’s The Stream, which is a social media community with its own daily TV show on Al Jazeera. Yes, yes we did say TV show, but you can now listen to the audio via SoundCloud.  Topics of late have included euthanasia, pandemics, internet addiction and even the political and social implications of K Pop,which you can listen to below. You can get involved in the show by sending your comments on Facebook or Twitter using #AJStream. Why not try recording something with the SoundCloud app and sending it to them?

Here’s their piece on internet addiction:

BBC’s World Have Your Say is the BBC News programme where you set the agenda. If you follow their Facebook or Twitter you’ll get a better idea of the daily topics that you are encouraged to get involved with – either by phoning in and partcipating live on the air, or by simply tweeting, emailing or commenting on the Facebook wall. To get a better idea of what the show is about, the topics and the style take a listen to Elena Panaritis, Greek MP and Daniel Gros from the Centre for European Policy Studies debate whether Greece should get more time to make the spending cuts needed to meet its Eurozone bailout.

And a Word Have Your Say caller from China discussing the anti Japanese protests that happened recently.

Or this set of “London Sound Drops” recorded during the Olympics, these are a compilation of field recordings round London, capturing the essence of the Capital City during London 2012 Games.

If you are interested in trying out SoundCloud as a spoken word podcast platform, you can sign up for via this form. Successful candidates will be emailed with further details.
