SoundCloud Next Wave: Discwoman Driving Diversity in NY Electronic Music Scene
“I think a sense of community is so affirming. If you feel alone in your endeavors, it’s a lot harder to progress. Whereas if you have a few peers supporting what you’re doing, it’s a lot easier to navigate in that world.”
“Extended Mix,” the newest episode from SoundCloud Next Wave, premieres today, featuring the New York-based platform, collective, and booking agency, Discwoman, as well as next-level electronic artist, Bearcat.
The episode is the third installment of the mini-docuseries, which aims to shed light on the underground music scenes from around the world that are growing, thriving and driven by SoundCloud’s connected community of creators, listeners and curators.
The episode gives viewers an inside look at the artists’ special relationship to the expansive New York electronic music scene, as well as shares the backstory on the female collective’s rise to becoming one of the pivotal forces in shifting electronic music culture in New York to be more inclusive and diverse.
SoundCloud Next Wave previously highlighted other exciting local creator communities that have been propelled by SoundCloud’s people-powered ecosystem including Toronto’s more soulful and groovy side with “Northern Stars,” and Los Angeles’ rising goth rap movement with “Degenerate Generation.”
Stay tuned for upcoming episodes featuring scenes from Brazil, London and Berlin.
