We’re back with volume five of our monthly roundup of auditory gems, freshly harvested from the flowing stream of submissions sent in by our community of creators. This month’s compilation glides across contemporary US hip-hop, Danish bedroom folk-punk, Japanese lo-fi, soaring Persian soundscapes and more.

Virginia’s Coolhand Trew teams up with underground hip-hop hero Blu for this sublimely breezy number. While the summer nights being celebrated in the chorus may have been experienced mostly through windows this year, you’ll feel the warmth of it all the same while sitting back and listening to this track.
Harvey – “Okay”
Ultra breezy electronic neo-soul from Harvey wafted into our ears this month direct from Denver, CO, the Mile High City. Harking back to the chill-out scene of the early ’00s and boosted by slickly applied modern production techniques, “Okay” is perfect for horizontal headphone listening.
Elaquent – “Ready To Go”
This track is a throwback to the LA beats sound (as championed by labels such as Brainfeeder). This hot one from Toronto beatsmith Elaquent is at the peak of its intergalactic powers.
Oiseau – “Wilderbeast”
Melbourne’s Oiseau serves up the perfect blend of electronic, indie rock and alt-pop in her latest album Soft Geography. The groovy and mystical “Wilderbeast” is an album highlight — “Won’t you come away, away,” Oiseau sings, her soft vocals floating across a bed of rich and experimental instrumentation.
Mahan Farzad – “Transition”
“Transition” is a haunting piece from Iran’s Mahan Farzad, who fuses post-rock soundscapes with melismatic singing. This modern setting of poet Hafez’s work is ideal for autumnal strolls and the changing of the seasons.

The Beez – “Plants”
This is conscious hip-hop set firmly in the classic ’90s mold from Delaware’s The Beez.
Blood Girl – “Quarantine Blues”
Blood Girl makes, in their own words, “queer sadcore folkpunk and weird Auto-tuned robotic melodies” from their bedroom studio out of Århus, Denmark. Woodchipperbrain employs the stripped back, timeless pastoral combo of acoustic guitar and vocals to pleasant effect.
Boys Age – “Bones (Instrumental)”
Boys Age is a “Japanese DIY master” based in Saitama, who has a trove of recordings and releases on a number of indie labels spanning a variety of genres. “Bones (Instrumental)” is a languid, carefree jam which neatly encapsulates his approach.
More commonly known for his larger-than-life dubstep and bass productions, IBenji steps into the pop realm with “Отпусти.” Accompanied by fellow Moscow dweller FRIZZYMONSTA, this Russian duo create a fresh and exciting electro-pop number.
Taken from the album 35mm on Russian label Radiant Sound, “Finish Crossing” is a showcase of subtle sound design and rich textural exploration, softly punctuated by glitches, crackles and the occasional garbled vocal cut.
