Today we welcome a significant addition to our roster of On SoundCloud Premier Partners: Merlin. When we started SoundCloud in 2007, one of our chief priorities then, as it remains today, was championing independent artists. The indie community has always been at the heart of SoundCloud, and our deal with Merlin is another way for us to further support the independent community by opening a new source of revenue for them.
As we announced back in March this year, On SoundCloud now has over 100 partners, ranging from bigger labels to emerging independent artists. We’ve continued to bring more partners on board and, from today, the 20,000 independent record labels and distributors who make up Merlin’s worldwide network will be able to join On SoundCloud and select the tracks they want to make available for inclusion. Some of the labels and distributors who have joined today include Beggars Group, Domino, Secretly Group, Epitaph, PIAS, Warp Records, Armada Music, Ninja Tune, Kontor Records and many more.
In just the last month, more than 10 million creators were heard on SoundCloud – helping us to reach a milestone of 100 million tracks uploaded. And for our 175m monthly SoundCloud users, today’s announcement means you should expect to have more opportunities to connect with Merlin’s vast roster of indie labels and artists. You’ll also be able to discover and listen to more new tracks from the best independent label creators on the planet, safe in the knowledge they’ll now have the opportunity to get paid while you listen.
We love helping you make your music & audio sound great. But we know you want them to look great, too. Which is why we’re launching a new integration with Instagram to make it easier than ever to add your favorite photos to your SoundCloud posts and profile.
It’s easy. Connect your Instagram feed to your SoundCloud account. Then you’ll be free to choose your best photos to add to your tracks, playlists, groups, or profile. You can do it straight away when you post on SoundCloud, or add Instagram images later on the sound or track’s page. Looking for inspiration? Kaskade and Krewella have already hooked it up.
Your Instagrams: the next generation of iconic album covers? We can’t wait to see what you have to share.
We’re always excited to develop new ways to make it easy for you to share and hear sounds everywhere. So we’re happy to announce today that we’re working together with Google to make it easier than ever to reach your audience by sharing sounds to Google+.
We launched a Google+ Sign-In integration back in May, making it possible for you to sign in to SoundCloud using your Google account. Today, we’ve leveled up our integration. Share any SoundCloud URL to your Google+ circles and the widget will appear, automatically in the post. (You’ll need to make sure to enable the widget when you post your sounds so they can be shared this way.) That also means that you (and your followers!) can play sounds from SoundCloud within Google+: no need to open up a new tab.
And it’s effortless — check out how artists like Pearl Jam, Snoop Lion and Armin Van Buuren are already using the integration to share their latest tracks (look out for the hashtags: #soundcloudplus and #summersound). Don’t forget to follow us on Google+, too.
