Today three of our first Community Fellows (Eduardo, Katie and Alex) have wrapped up their projects with us and two of our fellows (Evan and Ed) have dropped in to update us on their progress! Each fellow took time to reflect on how they used sound to tell stories, learn about their cities and use sound in a different way, here is what Evan (Organic City Sounds) had to say:
Working as a SoundCloud fellow has allowed me to re-discover my city, even after years of living here. Organic City Sounds has led me into the cramped kitchens of food-cart chefs, found me out drinking with some of the city’s top beer-experts, and turned me into the biggest coffee-snob I know. All of this, in the pursuit of capturing some of the beautiful sounds and amazing voices that inhabit Portland.
This project has allowed me to capture some truly fantastic sounds! One of my favorite clips is the sound of kids screaming as they slide down a steep hill on pieces of cardboard in North West Portland. Another cherished recording is that of an elderly woman stuck in Portland (below), yearning to go back to sunny California. And perhaps my favorite, a fellow Soundclouder’s contribution of a blackberry-picking hike with her cute little boy (above). This fellowship has allowed me to pursue my biggest passions, and the SoundCloud community’s support has been absolutely mind-blowing. The best part – is it is still not over! SoundClouders rock!
