SoundCloud Voices is a weekly Community feature focusing on new spoken word creators found on SoundCloud. It might be a podcast, radio show, audio book, interview, audio messages, a poem, anything! Keep an eye out every Thursday for a new post.
Another edition of SoundCloud Voices this week, and another selection of fantastic spoken word audio for you to dive into. This week we take a look at two fantastic podcasts distributed by radio stations – we have The State We’re In from Radio Netherlands Worldwide and Love & Radio from Chicago station WBEZ.
First up is The State We’re In. This weekly program focuses on how we treat each other, dealing with people’s first hand stories. It’s been given the ‘seal of approval’ by This American Life’s Ira Glass who has praised host Jonathan Groubert as one of the best interviewers he has heard. Take a listen to the latest episode below which has had some heart warming praise from listeners – take a read of a letter sent to the TSWI office which the team posted on their Facebook wall.
Next up is the brilliant Love + Radio – the only public radio show to be tagged with the ‘explicit’ tag. Presented by Nick van der Kolk the show features in-depth, otherworldly-produced interviews with an eclectic range of subjects, from the seedy to the sublime. Get inside the mind of a rogue taxidermist. Find out what it’s like to experience a stroke firsthand. Or spend time with an artist who gives away her life savings every night. You’ve never heard anything like it before. Take a listen to the latest episode, the first of the new season, and also a curious episode with Joanna Newsom.

Today we’re happy to present another installment of our new audio series ‘SoundCloud Speaks’. The series gives us a chance to take an in-depth look into stories from the ‘cloud, whether they’re interesting users, fun projects or shiny-new features we’ve introduced.
In this episode we’ll hear from SoundCloud power-user and radio-producer extraordinaire, Roman Mars. Roman lives in the San Francisco Bay Area, producing the popular podcast and micro-radio show 99% Invisible. He is also the host, program director, and creative mind behind PRX’s fantastic 24-hour story stream, Public Radio Remix. Listen in, as we talk with Roman about his projects, how he got started in radio, and his on-going love affair with the human voice on tape.
SoundCloud Speaks is your show, so let us know what you’d like to hear. If you have a story you’d like to tell, a question you’d like answered, or want to recommend a friend’s sounds for us to share, get in touch by either leaving a comment here, or sending us a voice message at our dropbox. We’re also looking for some more voices for our intro jingles, if you fancy being included, just send us a recording of you saying ‘SoundCloud Speaks’, and we’ll throw it in the mix.

Having focussed on journalism last week, this week on SoundCloud Voices we’d like to take a look at how radio shows use SoundCloud to post snippets, interviews and promote their show. First up is 92.7 Big FM Chennai in India with the host RJ Balaji. The show, called Cross Talk, uses SoundCloud to post snippets and highlights such as prank phone calls, which they post to RJ Balaji’s Facebook page and the Cross Talk Facebook page. Take a listen to one of the many prank calls they post below, and get commenting too!
Now over to South Africa and Cape Talk FM – Cape Town’s first ever talk radio station. Similar to Big FM Chennai they post snippets of interviews, discussions and cover all the latest pressing topics from local news, politics to euthanasia. They then post these to their twitter account.
And finally the Ed and Rachel show on the UK’s Heart FM station have also been using SoundCloud to post highlights of shows and push them to Facebook and embed on their site. Ever wondered how to get over a broken hear? Well here’s Ed and Rachel discussing the latest scientific discoveries on the subject. How to get over a broken heart… by Ed and Rachel
