Two weeks ago we introduced Sound Bites — a contest series we’re hosting on SoundCloud. It was really awesome: over 70 great entries, and some fantastic winners. For those who didn’t play along last time, the idea is we give you an image, a video, a sound, or some other bit of inspiration, and you’ve got the weekend to create something.
You can make a song, a field recording, a spoken poem, or whatever kind of sound you want, and submit it to our Sound Bites group for the competition. The only rules are:
the recording should be something completely original, created, recorded, written by you
you should make it all between Wednesday, May 18 and Monday, May 23 at 10 pm CEST
it should be under three minutes long
please put the words “Sound Bites” in the title of the track
This time around, the theme of the challenge is reverse — so you have to incorporate sounds played backwards into your submission. There’s no limit on how much or how little has to be reversed, but we’ll be looking to reward creative submissions! Make sure “Sound Bites” is in the title, and submit away.
We’ll go through them, and announce the winner on our blog this Wednesday, May 25. Deadline for submissions is Monday, May 23 at 10pm CEST.
Now get to making some sounds! We here at Team SoundCloud will pick a winner, who will receive
What a weekend it’s been! Last Thursday, when we announced our first Sound Bites contest and provided a video in need of audio accompaniment, we had no idea what to expect. In our wildest dreams, we couldn’t have hoped for over 70 amazing submissions over the course of a weekend, but look what we’ve gotten!
It wasn’t easy whittling such a bumper crop down to the top three, and it was even harder picking an overall winner. But our superstar jury — consisting of Team Vimeo, Team SoundCloud, and filmmaker Remyyy — persisted and made a selection. So without further ado, here are our big winners.
The first place winner and recipient of a SoundCloud Premium upgrade, a Vimeo Plus subscription, and a SoundCloud swag pack, is Sasha Gransjean. Sasha created his submission almost entirely out of sounds from the video, adding only piano. Quite an impressive feat! Watch the video with his audio in place below, or just listen to the track in the SoundCloud player.
We’ve removed the third video on a request from the user who submitted the track, but there are plenty of other great entries to listen to!
A huge thanks again to every single entrant. It was so much fun to listen to all of the amazing submissions, and it’s worth listening to each and every one of them. Stay tuned for Sound Bites #2 coming soon!
We’re super excited to announce Sound Bites — a new contest series we’ll be hosting on SoundCloud, starting today! Here’s the deal: we give you an image, a video, a sound, or some other bit of inspiration, and you’ve got the weekend to create something.
You make a song, a field recording, a spoken poem, or whatever kind of sound you want, and submit it to our Sound Bites group for the competition. The only rules are:
the recording should be something original
you should make it this weekend
and it should be about the same length as the video.
We’ll go through them, and announce the winner on our blog this Wednesday, May 11, sometime during office hours in our Berlin HQ. Deadline for submissions is Tuesday, May 10 at 10pm CET.
This time around, we’ve teamed up with Vimeo and the film maker Remyyy, who’s provided a brand new video as this week’s prompt. Check out the video below:
Also, in case you want to test out the track and the audio together, you can use the nifty “Instant Music Video” tool made by former SoundClouder Thor Kell.
