SoundCloud Heroes are inspirational leaders who bring people together around sound by cultivating and engaging unique communities.
We continue our introductions of our newest SoundCloud Heroes. Please say hello to Sydnee Johnson, an aspiring sound designer from Dallas, TX. She started a new group centered around redesigning and reinventing sounds and is a pretty swell storyteller to boot.

What do you do? How do you use SoundCloud in your life?
I’m an aspiring sound designer based in Dallas, TX working to develop audio for media. Being part of different groups on SoundCloud has given me the opportunity to draw inspiration from many great sound creators, which has moved me to push myself to think more creatively by showcasing my sounds to a broader audience. Be it right from the app on my phone or with my portable recorder, because of SoundCloud I am now always looking for great moments in life to record.
What is the collaboration idea that you would like to accomplish with the SoundCloud community?
In dealing with sound design, I have always appreciated the fact that sound can be turned into anything. You can reverse, slow-down, pitch shift, absolutely anything you want and turn it into something more interesting. My sound collaboration idea is dedicated to sound creators of all trades: sound designers, musicians, SFX recordists, etc.
I will record and release a new sound every week on my collaborative Sound In / Sound Out group, and every week the sound will be made downloadable to all the group members. You, the group members, will take the sound and design it into whatever you want: a song, a sound effect, a drone, anything! You will then re-upload the newly designed sounds back onto the page and make your sounds downloadable to all other members, and boom we have a community pot of sounds! Don’t worry I’ll be re-designing, too. I won’t just be collecting your beautiful sounds!
What is your favorite place in the city and why?
One of my favorite places in the city is the West end of Dallas, which is a small busy portion of downtown Dallas. I love going out there to capture the sounds of the night life, or just to walk around and admire the city. You can also meet some very interesting personalities down there!
What is your favorite sound and why?
Although I deal mostly in developing hard sound effects, I love the natural sounds of environments. I find the ambience of a park, or a city, or forest, very comforting because it’s the world developing itself perfectly into a great sound.
Where else can we find you on the web?
